Discover the marine wildlife of the intertidal zone in its natural habitat. Participants pull a ten-foot seine net through waist-deep water to catch, examine, and release marine life. Common organisms include pompanos, silversides, mullets, sea jellies, and crabs (no guarantees on the catch, as nature is notoriously unpredictable!) After seining, explore the sandy bottom with a sifter to search for sand dollars, clams, crabs, and more.
Please note: Tybee Island’s waters are generally calm, though waves can sometimes be strong. Seining recommended for participants nine years and older.
