Space is limited to 15 participants for this rare opportunity to join members of the Tybee Sea Turtle Project and observe an excavation of a recently hatched sea turtle nest. ***PLEASE READ: Bookings for these programs are only available after nest hatches and fill up fast—check our Facebook page frequently during the season in the afternoons for the best chance of securing a spot!
Registrants meet at the science center for a brief presentation on sea turtles and visit with our marine debris ambassador loggerhead sea turtle, then travel a short distance to watch as the Sea Turtle Project volunteers, as permitted by DNR, excavate a recently-hatched nest to count egg shells, determine hatch rates, and assist any stragglers still remaining.
Ages 4 & under free. Under 18 must be accompanied by paid Adult.

Beach Ecology Walk
Join a marine science educator for a guided walk on Tybee’s north beach. Learn about ecology, marine life, and more while gaining an appreciation for our oceans.
Discover the incredible lives of North American Right Whales and the vital conservation efforts underway along Georgia’s coast in this engaging lecture-based program. Recommended for ages 6 and up.
Join us to learn about the amazing lives of these sea turtles. We’ll discuss anatomy, natural adaptations, why sea turtles cry, natal beaches, and Tybee Island’s conservation efforts.
During this trek through Georgia’s salt marsh, you’ll get hands-on exploration in the mud searching for animals and learning about these unique areas. Recommended for ages 6 and up.
Catch and examine marine animals by pulling a seine net through waist deep water. You’ll learn about the organisms you catch, including crabs and jellyfish, then release them. Recommended for ages 9 and up.
Sea Camp provides a hands-on experience introducing your child to animals native to Coastal Georgia. Our engaging program teaches campers by way of the classroom, the beach, field trips and outdoor fun.
