Groups have their choice of either a one-hour beach ecology walk OR marsh ecology walk, and a 30-minute sand sifting OR seining activity. A 30-minute guided gallery tour with marine science educator is also included.

Live Animals Exhibits

Guided Tour

Educators lead your group through a 30 minute tour of the Coastal Gallery which features species native to the Georgia coast, a few invaders. Our live animal collection changes throughout the season and includes baby ‘gators, lionfish, loggerhead sea turtle hatchling, batfish, stingrays, puffers, se horses, and more. Guests interact with live marine invertebrates like hermit crabs, snails, and sand dollars in the open touch pool.

Beach Ecology Walk
A guided beach walk to explore the dynamics of Georgia's barrier islands including tides, seashells, and sand dunes. Identify plants and marine animals that inhabit our beach and ocean, and collect unoccupied shells.

Marsh Ecology Walk
Hike into a tidal marsh to learn about the importance of this ecosystem. Explore botany, mud, periwinkle snails and more in the oceans' nursery. Catch scampering fiddler crabs. Prepare for wet muddy feet.

Sand Sifting
Designed for younger participants (2nd grade or younger) or inclement weather. Scouts are in ankle-deep water and sift through the sand to find creatures like amphipods, mole crabs, and coquinas.

  • For Ages 9+
Seining
Pull a 10-foot seine net in the surf to catch and observe the marine life in our waters. Classification and adaptations of species featured. Get wet to the waist.
